Double Thrust Cam bearings, Type 1 Based Engines

for an Air-Cooled VW Engine Type 1 1600 Dual Port Beetle, Bus, Thing, Buggy

The VW Double Thrust Cam Bearing Set includes 6 pieces which sit in the cam bore on the engine case. The double thrust cam bearing set has two thrust bearings (standard cam bearing kits only have one thrust bearing) for twice the durability. No special machining is needed, the double thrust bearing set can be installed in place of standard bearing sets, it just has two thrust bearings for double the durability. The bearings fit 1966 through 1977 Standard Beetles, 1970 through 1979 Super Beetles, 1966 through 1974 Karmann Ghias, 1963 through 1971 Type 2 Bus models, 1962 through 1973 Type 3s, 1973 through 1974 Things, 1986 through 1991 Vanagons and 1986 through 1991 Syncros. They will also fit 1983 through 1985 Vanagons that have a replacement engine case.

"HD" or Double Thrust cam bearing sets are the same as stock, but with 1 more stock thrust bearing half. The extra thrust bearing has an alignment tang, just like the opposite side which is meant for a stock machined case that only had one cam bearing notch cut in the case. If your engine case hasn't been machined with an additional cam bearing alignment groove, common practice is to just file down the alignment tang on the additional thrust bearing.
